General
Information - Alaskan Sport Fishing
Fishing
trips in Alaska fall into several categories based on species, location and
accomodations.
SPECIES:
Most fishermen coming to Alaska want to fish for salmon, giant
rainbow trout,
arctic char, northern pike and/or arctic sheefish. Of the five (5) salmon
species that are so
abundant in our waters. King (Chinook) salmon are perhaps the most sought
after because
of their large size and powerful runs. Silver (Coho) salmon and red (sockeye)
salmon are
prized on the plate as well as for their fighting ability.
LOCATIONS:
Our company concentrates on fishing expeditions in SouthCentral
(Mat-Su and Kenai
Peninsula rivers) and SouthWest (Bristol Bay
drainage rivers) Alaska, although expeditions can
be arranged for virtually anywhere in the state. Most
fishing is freshwater river fishing (as opposed
to saltwater fishing except for salmon fishing in SouthEast Alaska and for
halibut fishing in SouthCentral) and can be done out of tent camps, cabins
or deluxe lodges as you desire. Some of
our lodges which are located on lakes provide fly out fishing to various rivers
as part of their
package.
ACCOMODATIONS:
We offer a wide range of accomodations from worldclass lodges with all amenities
to portable tent camps that are transported by rafts, boats, or bush planes.
Some of our fishing packages combine the comfort of a premier wilderness lodge
for part of your stay with several days or more at a more adventurous, prepositioned
river tent camp.

King Salmon (Chinook Salmon) |

Sockeye Salmon (Red Salmon) These silvery fighters average 6-12 lbs. and most of its muscle.
These salmon begin to clog many Alaskan rivers in late June and the
runs end generally in late July. Since the Sockeye tend to hug the bank,
most fishing is done from the shore. Methods include casting cohoe flies
in a style found only on the Kenai River. |

Many anglers think silvers are the most fun of all the salmon. These fighters are notorious for their acrobatics, burning up drags and snapping rods. Silvers average 10-20 lbs., with lunkers nearing 25 lbs. Season begins in early August and ends September 30th. Methods include casting spinners, and back trolling. |
Pink Salmon (Humpy
Salmon) and Chum Salmon (Dog Salmon)
Pinks return in even numbered years and Chums every year in July and
August. Pinks and Chums are the most aggressive salmon that returns to Alaska.
Their sheer numbers and willingness to strike anything shiny makes them a favorite
with kids, novice fishermen, and anyone who fishes for the thrill of the catch.
Caught by casting
spinners and spoons.

Halibut Pacific Halibut: Both sides of the Kenai Peninsula are home to some of the finest halibut fishing available anywhere. Limits of halibut weighing between 20 and 50 lbs. are the norm, with halibut between 100 and 300 lbs. coming in daily. Combination trips fishing for King salmon and Halibut are very popular saltwater trips. Halibut fishing runs from May through September with King-halibut combos having the greatest catch rates in June.
